Taipei City is the capital and the political, economic, educational, and cultural center of Taiwan. It is one of the major hubs of the Chinese-speaking world. Considered to be a global city, Taipei is part of a major high-tech industrial area.

Tourism is a major part of Taipei’s economy. In 2013, over 6.3 million overseas visitors visited Taipei, making the city the 15th most visited globally.

National Theater and Concert Hall

Taiwan’s National Theater and National Concert Hall were two of the first major modern performing arts facilities to be established in Asia, opening in 1987.

The National Theater has traditional Chinese Ming and Qing style architecture, featuring a royal hipped roof similar to that of the Hall of Supreme Harmony seen in the Forbidden City in Beijing. The theater has four floors with a total of 1524 seats. There are state of the art surround speakers along with carpeted floors to absorb sound, crafted wood designs on the walls that help balance acoustics, and golden carved decorations to further the effect of sound absorption.
